Is this experience suitable for first-time visitors to an animal café?

Yes.

Many of our guests are visiting an animal café for the first time.

Our Owl Concierge Team lives and works closely with our owls every day, and we will gently explain how to spend time with them, how to approach them, and how to enjoy the experience safely and respectfully.

Each owl has a different personality.

Some are calm and dignified, some are curious, and some prefer a little more space.

We guide each guest according to the owls’ individual temperament, so there is no need to feel nervous before your visit.

Can children enjoy the experience?

Yes, many families enjoy their time with our owls.

We kindly ask children to remain calm inside the café, as owls are very sensitive to sudden movements and loud voices.

With gentle guidance, children can often enjoy a beautiful and memorable experience.

For younger children, we recommend that guardians stay close and help them interact with the owls softly and carefully.

Can we take photos and videos with the owls?

Yes.

Photos and videos are welcome and free of charge.

You may also bring a camera, including a DSLR or mirrorless camera.

We kindly ask guests not to use flash, as we place great importance on the comfort of our owls.

Photos are one of the most cherished parts of the experience, and many guests take home a quiet memory from their time in Tokyo.

Can we touch the owls?

In some cases, guests may gently touch the owls under our guidance.

Because each owl has its own personality and condition on the day, we will guide you carefully and let you know how to interact with them in a way that is comfortable for the owls.

Our priority is always to create a calm and respectful experience.

Can we hold an owl on our arm?

Yes, in many sessions, guests may have an owl rest on their arm under our guidance.

We will explain how to keep your arm steady and how to remain calm so that both the guest and the owl can feel comfortable.

Please kindly note that the details may vary depending on the owls’ condition on the day.

About Our Owls

owlcafe-tokyo

How many owls live at Akiba Fukurou?

Approximately 40 owls live peacefully at Akiba Fukurou.

They range from some of the world’s smallest owls, weighing around 60 grams, to large eagle owls weighing around 3 kilograms.

Guests may meet a wide variety of owls, including species native to Japan and rare owls from around the world that are not commonly seen even in zoos.

What kinds of owls can we meet?

You may meet many different types of owls, from small and delicate species to large and powerful eagle owls.

Each owl has its own expression, personality, rhythm, and preferred way of spending time.

Part of the beauty of the experience is noticing these small differences quietly.

Are the owls comfortable in this environment?

The well-being of our owls is at the center of how we operate.

Our sessions are reservation-only, and the number of guests is carefully limited so that the atmosphere remains calm.

We prepare the space every day, monitor the owls’ condition, and guide guests according to each owl’s personality and comfort level.

Our goal is not simply for guests to “see owls,” but to create an environment where both guests and owls can spend time peacefully.

For more information about our approach to animal welfare, please see the page below.

Animal Welfare

Is it ethical to run an owl café?

We understand that many guests may have thoughtful questions about animal cafés.

At Akiba Fukurou, we believe that any animal experience must be built on daily care, respect, calm management, and a deep understanding of the animals’ needs.

Our owls are not treated as decorations or entertainment objects.

They are living beings with individual personalities, preferences, and daily conditions.

For this reason, we carefully limit guest numbers, prepare each session in advance, avoid excessive stimulation, and guide all interactions gently.

We also believe that transparency is important.

If you would like to learn more about our care philosophy and daily environment, please kindly visit our page.

Owl Care Guide

What is the environment like inside the café?

Akiba Fukurou is designed to be calm, clean, and peaceful.

Because many owls live here, we place great importance on daily cleaning, ventilation, careful observation, and maintaining a quiet atmosphere.

Guests often tell us that they are surprised by how peaceful and clean the space feels.

Does the café smell?

We understand why many guests may wonder about this before visiting an animal café.

Our answer is simple: we clean very carefully every day.

We care for the owls throughout the day, and cleaning is part of our daily rhythm from morning until evening.

A calm and clean environment is important not only for our guests, but also for the comfort and health of our owls.

What does a typical day of owl care look like?

Every day may vary depending on the owls’ condition, season, and individual needs, but the day at Akiba Fukurou generally follows a rhythm like this.

7:00 a.m. — Lights On and Morning Feeding

We begin the day by checking the owls and preparing their morning care.

8:00 a.m. — Bathing and Sunlight

The owls may enjoy bathing and gentle exposure to natural light, depending on their condition and the day’s environment.

9:00 a.m. — Health Checks and Equipment Care

We carefully check each owl’s condition and maintain equipment such as anklets and jesses when needed.

10:00 a.m. — Rest Time

The owls begin to settle into a calm rhythm before the day’s sessions.

12:00 p.m. — Opening While Maintaining a Restful Environment

Sessions begin while we continue to protect a peaceful atmosphere for the owls.

6:00 p.m. — Closing

After the sessions, we continue care, cleaning, and observation.

6:00 p.m. — Evening Feeding and Flight Training

The owls receive evening care, and some may enjoy flight training depending on their condition.

Food, Drinks, and Personal Belongings

Do you serve food or drinks?

No.

We do not serve food or drinks.

Akiba Fukurou is not a dining café, but a calm owl experience designed for guests to spend peaceful time with our owls.

Our focus is on the owls, the atmosphere, and the memory of the encounter.

Can we bring food or drinks?

Drinks with secure lids may be brought into the café.

However, we kindly ask guests not to bring snacks, meals, or open food into the owl area.

Small pieces of food may accidentally fall or be swallowed by the owls, so we ask for your kind understanding in order to protect their safety.

Group Session and Private Session

What is the difference between Group Session and Private Session?

Group Session is a shared experience with around 10 guests.

Private Session offers a more exclusive and quiet atmosphere, ideal for guests who would like to enjoy the owls at a slower pace.

Private Session may be especially suitable for couples, families, special occasions, guests who would like more time for photos, or those who prefer a calmer and more personal visit.

How many guests are usually in a Group Session?

The number may vary depending on the day, but our Group Session is usually around 10 guests.

We carefully limit the number of guests so that the atmosphere remains calm and comfortable for both our guests and our owls.

Which session should we choose?

If you would prefer a quieter, more personal, and more relaxed experience, Private Session may be more suitable.

Both sessions are carefully prepared, and we would be happy to welcome you in whichever style feels most comfortable for your visit.

Accessibility and Mobility Support

Can wheelchair users enter the café?

We are very sorry, but we are unable to welcome guests using wheelchairs inside the café.

Owls have a very sensitive awareness of their surroundings, and unfamiliar objects such as wheelchairs or canes may cause them to panic.

For the same reason, we kindly ask guests not to use canes inside the owl area.

However, if a guest is able to walk with the support of a companion, they may enter the café.

Once inside, guests may enjoy the experience while seated, so please feel reassured if standing for a long time is difficult.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding, as this policy is in place to protect the safety and comfort of both our guests and our owls.

Can I use a cane inside the café?

We are very sorry, but canes may not be used inside the owl area.

Because owls are highly sensitive to objects and movement they are not used to seeing, canes may cause fear or sudden movement among the owls.

If you are able to enter with the support of a companion and sit during the experience, we would be happy to welcome you.

Keeping Owls in Japan

Do you need a license to keep an owl in Japan?

In Japan, if the owl is legally bred as a pet, a special license or personal qualification is generally not required to keep it as a pet.

However, proper care, environment, knowledge, and long-term commitment are essential.

Running a business involving owls requires appropriate registration and legal compliance.

Owls are highly specialized animals, and we believe they should only be welcomed into a home when the environment and responsibility are carefully prepared.

For more information about owl care, please see the page below.

Owl Care Guide

Can anyone keep an owl as a pet?

Legally, some owls may be kept as pets in Japan if they are captive-bred and properly documented.

However, we do not believe that owls are suitable for everyone.

They require appropriate food, equipment, space, daily care, veterinary awareness, and a deep respect for their nature.

If someone is considering welcoming an owl into their life, we believe it is important to first learn carefully, prepare the environment, and understand the responsibility involved.
